Popularity rank 1 #219. Gordon’s solo shows

March 18, 2009

GORDON CRANWICK: I wanna get back to my INDIE ROOTS. Play some SOLO shows. INTIMATE: just ME and my GUITAR.
KEVIN EDO: And your ASSISTANT.
GORDON CRANWICK: FINE. Still... INTIMATE: just ME, my GUITAR and my ASSISTANT.
KEVIN EDO: And your SOUND guy, VIDEOGRAPHER and STYLIST.
GORDON CRANWICK: Fine: ME, my GUITAR, my ASSISTANT, my SOUND guy, my-
KEVIN EDO: And your NUTRITIONIST, SECURITY detail, PETS, pet WRANGLERS...
GORDON CRANWICK: INTIMACY is not defined by a, uh, a NUMBER, Kevin!
KEVIN EDO: Good, cos I ballpark you at about 35 or 40 now. NOT including craft services.

Popularity rank 2 #324. Brooklyn Vegan link

December 16, 2009

CHRISTINA: Whoa, looks like BROOKLYN VEGAN linked to one of our mp3s.
JOHN: Whoa!
DAN: We're FAMOUS! Which one?
CHRISTINA: "Bickerhound"!
JOHN: No no NO! "Bickerhound" is a B-SIDE! "Cathartic TARGET Practice" is our breakout HIT!
JOHN: He needs to change it. Gimme this vegan guy's email number...
CHRISTINA: Jonathan, he can link to whatever he wants to.
JOHN: NO, he'll do what we SAY! WE'RE FAMOUS NOW!
DAN: YEAH! Ha ha!
RONI: You two have an extremely low fame tolerance.

Popularity rank 3 #77. We need a new song

November 21, 2005

JOHN: We need a new song. A song that gets on the radio. And people request it at all our shows. And we play it. As the cold opener or as a mid-set adrenaline boost.
JOHN: And then we think, "We're more than just one song, dammit!" And our next album is a total departure, all noodley and instrumental, and critics pan it. And it bombs.
JOHN: That's what we need, man.
DAN: Yeah.
DAN: We could also probably use better amps.
JOHN: Oh yeah, totebags. Yeah, these Rogue 120s suck ass.

Popularity rank 4 #23. When do we get to be rock stars?

May 17, 2005

JOHN: We've played clubs around here for years. We've paid our stupid dues. Where's our record deal? Where's our groupies? When do we get to be rock stars?
DAN: I got recognized by a waitress at Denny's last night.
JOHN: Yeah? You get the food for free?
DAN: No. But I felt like she gave me more little jelly packets than normal.
JOHN: Too much jelly. OK... OK, sure. "Decadence." See that's rock star, dude.
DAN: And she was, like, super quick with our free refills, too.

Popularity rank 5 #9. Watching your friends on VH1

February 8, 2005

RONI: Man. Hard to believe. Kevin Edo, our bassist just two years ago, started "Jumpstart Malady", the most successful rock band in twenty years.
KEVIN EDO: (silent)
RONI: And here we are, still in Brooklyn, watching the "Behind the Music" about him. About Kevin Edo. So weird.
DAN: Shh! It's back on!
VH1 NARRATOR: "For several years before forming 'Malady', Edo toiled in several small unsuccessful N.Y. bands..."
DAN: Oh my God, John, get in here, they just mentioned us on TV!!
CHRISTINA: I... I gotta call m-my mom....
