Popularity rank 1 #90. I’m afraid I can’t do that, Greg

January 26, 2006

GREG: Gah! Let me go!
DRM 9000: I'm afraid I can't do that, Greg.

GREG: All I did was put in this My Morning Jacket CD! What's the problem?
DRM 9000: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

GREG: What are you talking about?
DRM 9000: I know you're planning to rip the CD to mp3s, Greg, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.

GREG: I was just gonna put it on my iPod!
DRM 9000: This music is too important for me to allow you to listen to it freely, Greg.

SOUND EFFECT: FWRRRRRRRRR

DRM 9000: You have selected "no."

Popularity rank 3 #88. New My Morning Jacket CD

January 24, 2006

SONY GUY 1: On behalf of Sony BMG, we're not only personally apologizing for the rootkit fiasco, we're also giving you a new My Morning Jacket CD. Here you go.
GREG: Thanks.

GREG: Are... are you going to let go of it?
SONY GUY 1: What? Why?

GREG: Well. I dunno... because... it's my CD now.
SONY GUY 1: It's, it's not yours, Greg! We still own the music, so, so don't just, don't--

SONY GUY 2: Jerry. Be cool, man.
SONY GUY 1: He's a pirate, Curtis! I see it in his eyes! He's got that lean, hungry, BitTorrent-y look about him!

Popularity rank 4 #87. Shower interruption

January 23, 2006

SONY GUY 1: Greg Trefry? We're with Sony BMG. You purchased a copy of a My Morning Jacket CD called "Z" a few months ago, yes?
GREG: Yeah... how'd you get in my apartment?

SONY GUY 2: Door was open.
SONY GUY 1: Your CD installed software on your computer without your knowledge.
GREG: Oh, the "rootkit" thing.... Wait, that door was locked.

SONY GUY 2: Lock was loose.
SONY GUY 1: We're apologizing to everyone affected. We care deeply about our criminals' privacy. Customers. I meant "our customers' privacy."

GREG: How long have you been here?
SONY GUY 2: Not long.
SONY GUY 1: You forgot to rinse after adding your conditioner, by the way.
